 My family made these great biscuits at night when the weather cooled down for baking.

Easy Cheesy Biscuits

3 cups all-purpose flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

1 tablespoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/2 cup cold butter

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 garlic clove, minced

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1-1/4 cups 2% milk

Preheat oven to 450°. In a large bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in cheese, garlic and pepper flakes. Add milk; stir just until moistened.

Drop dough by heaping 1/4 cupfuls 2 in. apart onto a greased baking sheet. Bake 18-20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

Our tail-gate dinners on the Fourth of July were very easy. This recipe is easy to make and transports well.

Green Beans Bravo Salad

 

16 ounces canned, cut green beans

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon dry mustard chopped

2 tablespoons tarragon or cider vinegar

2 Tbsp each olive oil and vegetable oil

2 ounces (10-12 slices) Italian dry salami, chopped

1 hard-boiled egg, sliced (optional)

2 green onions, sliced

1/2 cup sliced celery

1/4 cup sliced radishes

 

Toss together. Refrigerate covered. Keep cold before serving

        Serves 12

 Barbecue Sauce Tabasco

 

2 Tbsp butter or margarine

1 med onion chopped

1 clove garlic minced (opt)

1/2 cup catsup

2 Tbsp vinegar

1/2 tsp Tabasco

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1 tsp dry mustard

1/4 cup water

 

Combine all ingredients into saucepan and bring to a boil. Use to brush steak, roast, spare-ribs, chicken, and frankfurters, during cooking. Yields 1-1/4 cups.

Apple Pie Pockets

 

Readymade crescent rolls

Baking apples or apples of your choice

2 Tablespoons melted butter

1/2+ cup brown sugar

1-1/2+  tablespoon of ground cinnamon


Preheat, the oven to 400 degrees F., Take out the rolls or pie crust and unfold them. In a bowl mix the cinnamon and brown sugar. Use it to coat the pieces of dough. Cut the apple into pieces and put the pieces in melted butter. Then put them on the rolls or dough and close them by folding or rolling. Take a baking sheet with parchment paper and put the rolls on it. spread the remaining butter on each crescent roll croissant and sprinkle with additional sugar and cinnamon. Cook it in the oven for 1o to 12 minutes until they turn light golden. Serve them hot! Serves 8

These crisp-nutty drop cookies were my favorite. Mom made them for any celebration I could come up with! 

Pecan Jumble

1-1/2 cup finely packed dark brown sugar

1 cup Best Foods Real Mayonnaise

2 eggs

2-3/4 cup unsifted flour

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 cup salt

1 cup chopped pecans

1 cup pecan halves

 

In a large bowl beat the first 4 ingredients until smooth. Stir in the next 4 ingredients. Drop by level tablespoon 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Top each with half of a pecan. Bake 375F for 8-10 minutes or until lightly brown. Immediately transfer cookies to a wire rack. Makes 4 dozen.
